Nose-ie, nose-ie

by Marlies Hemminga

A horse’s nose is lovely and soft. This horse had such a'n mooi kleurverloop op zijn neus dat ik het mooi vond er een close up van te maken. De titel heb ik ooit gehoord in de film ''Minoes'' (Annie M.G. Schmidt maar ook gelezen in boeken) ;, cats (and other animals) press their noses against one another when they greet each other (sometimes, not always) and want to know who the other is; they gather certain information from scent.

Horses sometimes greet each other by gently blowing into the other’s nose. I do it sometimes too, and they always blow back; then you say (something like) ‘ ''hallo'' ’.

It’s the nose of an older horse. In his mid-20s. He’s already smelled many scents. This horse knows me and I know him, which is why I was able to get close. And the horse is used to camera's. Suitable if you’re looking for a close-up, whether it’s for an anatomy lesson, for a riding school or private stable, or for someone who loves horses. Taken in April 2024.

Sometimes I come across a herd of horses that I know and that know me. This is one of those horses. I have extensive experience in handling horses. Do not attempt this yourself unless you have sufficient experience. This horse knows me and I know the horse, which is why I was able to get so close. And the horse is used to people and camera's.
