The Old Harbour is one of the oldest ports of Rotterdam. This is the place where the river Rotte flowed into the Nieuwe Maas; after a dam was made in the Rotte this part remained connected to the main river.
Today, the Old Harbour is a mooring place for historic ships and the quays around it are a popular nightlife area.
In the middle of the picture we see the White House, Europe's first skyscraper, built in 1898. Behind it a row of pre-war buildings which during the construction of the railway tunnel in the nineties have been stored for several years.
The other buildings are much more recent.
The red tower with the "floating" blockin front of it is the Red Apple from 2009. Behind the White House is the pale brown Wijnhaevetower from the same year.
Right from the White House is a new square called Gelderseplein with on the far right the CitizenM hotel, completed in 2013 and behind it the office building Blaak 8, completed in 2012.
