About ‘Old and new Amsterdam’ by Koos Hageraats

The eye moves from the old Amsterdam in the foreground to the new Amsterdam in the background. The contrast seems great, but because past and present meet in one and the same image, a unity is created in the image. And the fact that the whole has the appearance of a classical painting is perhaps a coincidence, but above all, luck.

Original created by Koos Hageraats.

From 1989 to 2019 I worked in the publishing industry, and from 2007 I started photographing. Over time I have focused on portraits, landscapes, still life and - my favorite way of photography - icm. In these different forms of photography I am always looking for new and deeper layers. I do not so much want to depict reality as it is visible, I try to show in my photographs which reality also exists: one that is even more beautiful than the real one.
