Olive Tree Study is a watercolour painting in portrait format hand-painted by the artist Karen Kaspar.
A single tree with a gnarled trunk stands on a rocky embankment, its bright green foliage contrasting with a clear blue sky. Loose brushstrokes and splashes of colour lend the scene a soft, dreamy quality. The olive tree and the embankment are illuminated by sunlight from behind.
The inspiration for this study came from my own photos taken years ago on holiday in Italy, where these trees, some of them very old, with their bent gnarled trunks and bright green foliage, also grow in rocky places and enjoy the warm summer sun.
This painting brings a holiday atmosphere and summer feeling to the wall.
