About ‘Olive trees along the beach’ by Nop Briex

Like sentinels, the olive trees stand in a haphazard line. The calm Ionian Sea washes its waves onto the pebbly beach. A centuries-old olive grove, its silver-green foliage winding this way and that, sways in the pleasant, balmy spring breeze. I am alone, yet I do not feel so. Savouring the peace, far from the madding crowd. Here I find my place, enjoying the birds, the murmur of the sea and, in the distance, the fading sound of a fishing boat’s engine.

The afternoon sunlight lulls me as I paint. It bathes the tree trunks in a pleasant orange glow. Above my head, the branches form one harmonious, sweeping canopy.
