Orang-utans (Pongo) are a genus of great apes. Orang-utans are currently found only in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. The scientific name of the type species was published in 1760 as Simia pygmaeus by Carl Linnaeus. Earlier, in 1758, he gave the name Simia satyrus to what is now considered a mixture of chimpanzee and Borneo orang-utan, and that name was placed on the list of names not to be used in 1929. source wikipedia.
