This photo shows a vast field full of orange tulips, planted tightly in rows in the flat polder landscape of the Netherlands. The lines of the flowers draw your gaze deep into the image, towards the horizon where dykes and farms form the backdrop. The fresh green of the stems, the deep orange of the petals and the Dutch sky above combine to create a powerful and soothing image. What makes this shot special for me is the combination of colour, texture and space. The Dutch tulip is known worldwide, but only here, in the polder where they are grown, do you see them so massive and pure in their element. This sculpture is an ode to the Dutch landscape, the seasons and our floral splendour.
