A kind of "open-air gallery" was to be set up as "Ostalbkunst am Burgstallkreisel" (Ostalb art at the Burgstall roundabout) according to the idea of the then mayor Manfred Steinbach. "A grandiose idea", as the then mayor Pfeifle admitted with a smile when he first heard about the project, which was, however, imaginatively implemented in 2004.
Five artists have made the grey concrete bridge shine with their colourful pictures. One square wooden panel of 2.50 m each was to be painted on both sides. The artists agreed on a uniform colour scheme: one side was painted blue, the reverse side yellow. In accordance with the east-west orientation of the hanging pictures, the colours symbolise the sunrise and sunset. The choice of motif was free and the artists playfully picked up on the circular shape.
In the best sense of the word, this roundabout is all about art.
