About ‘Out of gold’ by Marieke van Rijsewijk

A playful, minimalist composition in which a small goldfish appears to be swimming calmly through a warm orange-yellow world. A complete contradiction, as if it has lost its own colours. The fish is rendered in a retro black-and-white halftone style, as if it had been cut straight out of a vintage magazine from the 1960s. Above the fish, soft, round air bubbles rise, playfully contrasting with the clean blocks of colour in the background.

The warm shades of yellow and orange give the piece a sunny, optimistic feel. The simplicity of the shapes and the minimalist colour scheme create a calm yet striking composition that fits perfectly into a modern interior. The combination of retro graphic elements and minimalist design makes this piece both nostalgic and contemporary.

This artwork is part of the Minimalist Retro series, in which vintage black-and-white figures and animals are combined with modern blocks of colour and simple shapes.
