About ‘Owl’ by Lisette van Peenen

This owl is 60 to 75 cm long and has a wingspan of 160-188 cm. There are differences, but also overlap, in body size between the two sexes. Males weigh 1.5 to 2.8 kilograms (3 to 4.2 pounds), while females are more substantial and heavier in the shoulders, weighing 1.75 to 4.2 kilograms (3 to 4.2 pounds).[3

The maximum age is 75 years. While resting on a lookout, females are almost immediately noticed for their somewhat drooping plumage, which appears "too big". Males generally make an 'athletic' impression with wings that are carried tightly on the body. Because of its size, massive body and thick head, the eagle owl cannot be confused with any other owl species in Europe. The face of the eagle owl is characterized by large eyes and often long ear tufts. The eye color varies from bright yellow to orange. The ear tufts are mostly black and are formed by a group of feathers which are moved by a separate muscle on the head. The beak is black and lies sunk in a white feathered skin fold; the throat fold.

The plumage is mostly yellow-brown with black accents. The black accents are most prominent on the back and the top of the wings. On the chest, the plumage is characteristically ochre coloured with a white spot. The legs of the eagle owl end in strongly clawed toes. The claws are on average 2-4 cm long and are capable of grasping a wide variety of prey.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
