This painting of this Arab woman, the Woman with the Niqab is a special painting, a painting that deals with prejudice. I wanted to give a message with this painting, what do you see when you look at the painting. Do you see a woman who wants to take off her clothes, her niqab and be Western dressed with her hair loose or do you see a woman who says, I want to be like this this is my culture, this is my religion and you have nothing to do with it.
Look at her and see - her veil is deliberately made transparent to show her as more than the garment she wears. It was made with a special acrylic medium and applied in a few strokes. The painting was made at 60 x 80 on canvas canvas I worked with different layers in the background. Black and purple in layers with stencil edits. It is a powerful painting because of the light contours she seems to want to step out.
I love discovering new things and often see things around me deeper than just the image alone.
