About ‘Park vreugd en Rust Voorburg’ by Barbara Koppe

Dit hek is is de toegangspoort naar het bekende park Vreugd en Rust in Voorburg. Er zit een heel stukje geschiedenis achter dit hek. Zo lag het al bijna op de schroothoop toen de heer Kok dit zag, hij wilde meer met dit hek!

Het hek heeft ooit aan het begin van de oprijlaan van de buitenplaats Hoekenburg gestaan. In 1910 is het het op de wereldtentoonstelling in Brussel gekocht door de eigenaar van Hoekenburg, de heer De Voogd. In 1928 werden er nieuwe wegen aangelegd waardoor het hek werd gesloopt en het op de gemeentewerf terecht kwam. In 1963 besloot de stichting Mooi Voorburg het hek te laten restaureren om het ergens in de gemeente terug te plaatsen. Na heel veel restauratie werk werd het hek pas in 1973 geplaatst op zijn huidige plaats.
