About ‘Parque Natural de Somiedo’ by Wolbert Erich

Park Somiedo is located southwest of Oviedo, 80 km from the coast (Costa Verde) in the region of Asturias. It is located in the central part of the Asturian mountains and is part of the Cantabrian Mountains. The park is one of Spain's most beautiful and rugged natural areas.
The park covers 29,122 ha and consists of five main valleys: Sapiencia, Valle del Lago, Puerto de Somiedo, Las Aortas and Cigüeñas.
It has dense deciduous forests and the rugged peaks go up to almost 2,200 m high and are still partly covered in snow until late spring. The highest peak is the Pico del Cornón
