This beautiful and moving sculpture of an old dancer stands next to the church on the Munsterplein in Roermond. The sculpture was created by Lotta Blokker.
Blokker was born in Amsterdam in 1980. During her high school years, she takes a field trip to Paris and visits Musée Rodin. The sculptures make a huge impression on her and she experiences there as if her destiny is determined. Looking at Rodin's sculptures, she decides: this must be it. After graduation, she leaves for Florence at age 19 to take sculpture classes at the "Academy of Art. The training focuses on mastering the technique of sculpting. As an artist, you must look closely to interpret, draw and model. The guiding advice is that the hand follows the eye. She is very talented. Before Blokker finished her studies, she was already teaching herself.
