About the artwork
This picture was taken in the old medina of Marrakesh, in Morocco. In the foreground, you can see a wooden door with a rounded top. The door's frame also follows this round shape. The wood is dark in colour and shows traces of use, which suits the historical atmosphere of the medina.
The wall in which the door is placed is covered with plaster. The colour of the plaster tends towards salmon pink, a shade common in Marrakech architecture. A striking detail is that part of the wall features horizontal stripes. These lines give rhythm to the image and create a graphic effect. The contrast between the smooth plaster and the stripes makes the wall more interesting to look at.
The picture shows a quiet street wall with no distractions from people or vehicles. As a result, the architectural style comes into its own. This type of architecture is typical of Marrakesh's medina: simple materials, earthy colours and decorative shapes with subtle details.
