The peregrine is a large falcon with an average size of 43 cm. They have a light underside with transversal bands and a dark grey back. There is a wide, black beard stripe. In the subspecies F. peregrinus peregrinus the back is dark grey and the parts are cream with dark spots, cheeks are white and the dark beard stripe (typical for all falcons) is clearly visible. The legs are yellow, the beak blue-black and already curved from the base of the beak.
