Pete is not here
I was supposed to meet Pete, but I didn't manage to be on time.
15 minutes late, you said?
Yes, I rushed in, but he wasn't there.
Did you get a good look?
I would have recognized him right away. His speech. His face. His being. Unmistakable. His absence immediately intruded on me.
Was it crowded?
I hardly saw that café. Nor who was there. There was an emptiness that took up no place. A kind of denial of Pete.
So Marie wasn't there either.
I didn't have an appointment with her, did I? Antoine and Robert probably weren't there at that hour either, but that's not the point. I expected to meet Pete.
And he wasn't there.
Everything in the surroundings faded in my search for Pete. But he wasn't there.
Where was he then?
I don't know. That's the point. There was no experience, no meeting, no Pete.
He was pretty much "not there".
And he didn't appear later either?
No, Pete was not there.
