Against a backdrop of a traditional Falurood Swedish house, this plague bird was captured. This man perched to enjoy the lichen growing on an apple tree in Småland.
The plague bird bears its name because it was once thought to bring the plague with it to the Netherlands. In fact, this bird is not traditionally found in the Netherlands, but can be found a little lower in Europe during the winter period from the far North.
Even here in southern Sweden, we only see plague birds in the first two months of the year. To our good fortune, again in January 2024.
