About "Poppy"

by didier de borle

About the artwork

The general symbolism of the poppy is ephemerality. Red refers to the blood of the dead, the black core to death and mourning.
For many people, the poppy has become a symbol of the suffering of all victims of World War I and World War II. This custom has its origins in the First World War where poppies grew on the bombed battlefields and the freshly dug graves.

The basis for this work is my photographic observation in Passendaale on August 26, 2016. I had the cooperation of my Canon 650D and Lightroom.

If I convert the digital pixels of this image to centimeters, I get a canvas size of 40 cm x 60 cm (width x height). A print up to 40 x 60 certainly has the best quality. My maximum print size would be 50 x 75. Choose the material that best suits your interior and don't let a possible frame take away the attention of the artwork.
