About the artwork

Porsche 936 classic Le Mans race cars in the pit lane at Spa Francorchamps with iconic Martini Porsche livery. The Porsche 936 was built to compete in the World Sportscar Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans which the Porsche 936 won three times.

The Porsche 936 is a purpose-built Group 6 prototype sports car that became one of Porsche’s most successful endurance racers of the 1970s and early 1980s. Introduced in 1976, it featured a lightweight open-cockpit design and a turbocharged 2.1-liter flat-six engine derived from Porsche’s 930 road car program, producing well over 500 horsepower in race trim. Its combination of aerodynamic efficiency, durability, and turbocharged power made it highly competitive in long-distance events. The 936 achieved immediate success, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in its debut year and securing additional overall victories in 1977 and 1981. Drivers like Jacky Ickx played key roles in its legendary performances. The 936 served as an important development platform for Porsche’s future prototype racers, showcasing the brand’s mastery of turbocharging and endurance engineering. Today, it is celebrated as a quintessential Porsche prototype and a dominant force of its era in international sports car racing.
