What an impressive photo of the fortified town of Heusden! The sky is anything but dull; dark, threatening clouds hang over the historic harbour, creating a dramatic contrast with the sturdy, red-brown brick wall and the bright drawbridge. It looks as if a heavy downpour could erupt at any moment, but for now the water in the canal is still calm, reflecting the sky like a dark mirror.
Across the water stands a traditional, wooden **mill**, whose silhouette against the cloudy sky is an iconic Dutch image. Next to the mill, you can see a small, cosy-looking house with a red-tiled roof, and another, smaller mill in the distance. People walk imperturbably along the quay, seemingly unimpressed by the building storm. At the bottom right is a modern, shiny boat moored, a nice nod to the present amid all that history. The picture shows perfectly how Heusden combines the beauty of the past with the vibrancy of today, all under a majestic, Dutch cloud cover.
