Saint Martin de Ré is the capital of the Ile de Ré. With its special fortifications by Vauban, it is even on the World Heritage list. The village is a lively place in the summer where many tourists come. The terraces around the harbour are very busy during the summer months. In the harbour, pleasure yachts lie next to fishing boats and tourists stroll along the promenade. The restaurants in the village offer a wide range of fresh fish and seafood and they often work with local products.
