In the city of Trier in Germany, you will find this beautiful old city gate. It dates from Roman times to be precise from the year 170. Hugely impressive when you stand in front of it as a little person. Due to the ravages of time, the sandstone blocks discoloured from light to black over the centuries. Hence the name Porta Nigra or Black Gate. Well worth a visit.
