The vulture is a bird of prey. But it actually hunts very little itself. In fact, a vulture is quite lazy! Vultures are actually scavengers.
Scavenger Vultures fly around looking for animals that are already dead. This is how they get their food. A vulture usually nibbles on the scraps left behind by other predators. Animals that die naturally also end up on the vulture's plate. Vultures are actually a kind of flying clean-up service.
Long neck Many of the animals the vulture eats have already been largely eaten by other predators. Therefore, a vulture often has to eat the bits of meat that are difficult to reach. Fortunately for the vulture, it has a long neck. With this, it can easily squeeze its head between the bones. This allows it to eat all the meat that other animals cannot reach.
