Puffins are very social birds, forming immense colonies. The largest known colony. They have a black body with white belly, and a white face with a colorful bill (red, yellow, orange).
When they get angry puffins make themselves bigger, spread their wings and open their beaks while stamping their feet to look even more frightening.
To show that they are not looking for a fight, a puffin passing the nest of a fellow puffin will press its beak against its chest and quickly walk by, indicating that it is only passing.
Puffins lay one egg. The eggs hatch after 36 to 45 days. The parents then take turns flying out to catch fish.
They are beautiful birds to observe. I photographed them on Papay Island and Vigur Island, both small islands near Iceland.
