Ranunculus (Ranunculus asiaticus), also called Asian buttercup, is an ornamental plant in the genus buttercup (Ranunculus) and belongs to the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). It is suitable for the flower bed and a tub plant on the balcony or terrace. Ranunculus is originally from the eastern Mediterranean and the Near East. Their wild form often grows in marshy areas. Their slightly branched, finely hairy stems bear incised, usually also slightly hairy leaves with a serrated or jagged margin. Underground, the ranunculus has tubers as persistent organs.
