The rare flamed butterfly is found on the sandy soils of the Veluwezoom. So this one was photographed there in a fresh green birch forest. Usually the females hang out in a tree during the day and the males are busy searching. This makes them difficult to photograph, this one went to rest briefly on a grass stem. The flamed butterfly is a diurnal and nocturnal moth and can be found in birch forests and heathlands.
