A Red Fox in the dunes. Red Foxes hunt solitary, usually at night and at dusk, but in undisturbed areas they prefer to hunt during the day. The fox is an opportunist: it eats almost anything. Today, the fox has the widest range of any predator. It occurs across practically the entire Northern Hemisphere, from the Arctic Circle to North Africa, North America and the Asian steppes. The species only does not occur in too-hot deserts, cold tundra and on islands like Iceland.
