Red Opel GT at Sunset in Tuscany

by Jan Keteleer

I painted this cherry-red Opel GT the way I remember the last light of a long day: warm, fleeting, and impossible to hold. The car rests on a quiet country road, its fastback curves catching the glow of a sun that has slipped out of view. I wanted the chrome bumper, the silver hubs, and the soft line of the roof to shimmer as if they still carried the warmth of the journey.

Working in impasto, I layered the paint thickly, leaving every brushstroke visible so it rises from the canvas like the texture of memory. Every ridge holds the evening light. Reds, oranges, and ochres pour across the golden fields, while cypress trees stand like silent witnesses in the middle ground. Autumn trees frame the scene in amber and rust. Beyond them, blue and violet hills fade into the distance beneath a sky of drifting cream and pale gold.

For me, this painting is about pausing. It is about that moment when the road goes quiet and we notice where we are. Perhaps you know that feeling too. I hope this Opel GT invites you to stop, breathe, and share in the beauty of an unhurried sunset.
