A full red poppy and grain in a summer flower meadow - who doesn't know them. The poppy. Also called the poppy.
Poppies are abundant in flower meadows and roadsides from late spring to late summer. The mix of grains, flowers and other soft summer tones completes the picture. Wild bees and bumblebees love poppies, And we know how to use poppies too. We extract poppy seeds from them, which we use abundantly on our sandwiches, and opium, morphine and heroin are also extracted from a poppy variety. Poppies can be used to make painkillers. The poppy also likes disturbed soil. Therefore, many poppies were found and used in war. Think for instance of the battlefields in Flanders and the First World War.
The poppy became a symbol of war. And many poems were written about it. Like the poem 'In Flanders Fields'. And apart from the beautiful symbol, they are also just very beautiful plants. I took this beautiful photo print in Emmen, Drenthe.
