Red poppy on a dark background

by ErwinFloor-Photography

A red poppy catches the last rays of light. Its delicate petals glisten as if they were made of silk, whilst the background fades into a dark blue-green. Beneath it, a second flower rests in the shade, like an echo of the first. The contrast between the bright red and the deep, tranquil background transforms a simple wildflower into a quiet, picturesque portrait.

I took this photograph in a field in Sint-Michielsgestel. Every year, it’s full of poppies, cornflowers and other wildflowers. It’s a beautiful sight and a lovely place to unwind. This time, I didn’t have to travel far: the field is just a few minutes’ walk from my house. Sometimes the most beautiful things are right round the corner.

The portrait format and dark tones make this print ideal for a hallway, bedroom, study or narrow wall, or above a sideboard. The red really stands out in an interior with dark walls, wood, linen and earthy tones. Against a light-coloured wall, the print acts as a warm, striking accent.

A fine-art floral photograph for those who love nature, tranquillity and colour with character.
