About the artwork
A sophisticated mixed media artwork with a harmonious, layered composition that creates real depth. The background consists of abstract colour blocks in gold leaf, off-white, dark brown, golden yellow and soft pink, arranged according to the golden ratio for balance. Subtle strips of vertical tape add texture without being overpowering. Stylised dried acrylic flowers - delicate little blossoms in brown, gold and pink - partially overlap with the background and with each other. A single bee, thickly painted in beige, brown, black and gold, floats right in front of a single flower, adding to the sense of space. An old newspaper from the 1960s is subtly integrated into the centre background, partially visible among the flowers and geometric blocks. Horizontal strips of tape and accents of gold leaf create elegant accents. The centrepiece is the head of a Scottish Highlander with long, wild hair falling over its eyes and large horns.
