About "Retro Vinyl in Geometric Composition"

by Bart Veeken

About the artwork

In this work, I combine the abstract forms of geometric art with the recognisability of classic vinyl records. The circles and semicircles in vibrant shades of orange, grey and black form a visual play that evokes the nostalgia of analogue music. This composition is strongly influenced by the style of the Bauhaus movement, where minimalism and functionality are central. The clean lines and balance between shape and colour create a harmonious whole that feels both modern and retro.

This creation lends itself perfectly to spaces where a retro influence is desired, such as a music studio, a modern living room or a creative workspace. The combination of hard geometric shapes and the softer, rounded forms of the plates creates an interesting dynamic that invites closer inspection.

The work is reminiscent of the abstract works of artists such as Piet Mondrian and Kazimir Malevich, where the essence of form and colour is central. Like their work, this composition is not only about what you see, but also about the emotions and memories it evokes. This composition pays tribute to the vinyl record as a symbol of an era when music was tangible and physical, and when listening to an album was a conscious and ritualistic experience.
