About "Robin (Erithacus rubecula)"

by Helga Pohlen - ThingArt

About the artwork

This watercolor depicts a welcome garden visitor who finds an abundant supply of buds and seeds in my natural garden.
In this true-to-life animal portrait, I aim to capture the essence of the subject by omitting the natural surroundings and choosing a neutral background. This approach focuses the viewer's eye on the center of the painting and conveys a sense of spaciousness, without ornamental accessories.
In this representation, the element of earth, symbolizing iron, durability and hardness, combines with the element of air, the bird, transcendence or the spiritual embodying a unity of matter and spirit.
Painted with Schmincke watercolors on Hahnemühle "Britannia" paper sheet.
