Just another summer day on the Greek island of Paxos where I have been coming to paint since 1987. Uphill at the end of the local Marmari Beach near Loggos, I look out over the azure Ionian Sea. Under the shade of centuries-old olive trees, I paint quietly with oil paints searching for the right atmosphere and warm summer tones.
Paxos, secretly known only to true small island travellers however has recently become increasingly popular due to the Netflix series Maestro in Blue. Many new explorers will be disappointed because Paxos has virtually no popular entertainment, almost no sandy beaches and a small number of hotels. On Paxos there is "only" beauty, tranquillity and authentic Greek atmosphere. For real entertainment and nightlife, the surrounding larger islands may be more popular with the average tourist.
