Roger de La Fresnaye (1885-1925) was a French painter best known for his role in the Cubism movement. He incorporated geometric forms and reduced volumes into his works, often with vivid colours and a subtle, almost lyrical quality. One of his best-known paintings is "The Conqueror" (1913), which shows the characteristic balance between cubist and traditional stylistic elements. La Fresnaye was also a member of the Section d'Or, a group that further developed the Cubist aesthetic. His work was interrupted by the First World War and his health problems, which led to a premature end to his artistic career.
