The Battle of Blenheim or Battle of Höchstädt was an important battle during the War of the Spanish Succession, which took place on 13 August 1704. Blenheim (now Blindheim, Bavaria, Bavaria) is located on the Danube, 16 kilometres southwest of Donauwörth in Bavaria, in southern Germany.
At the battle, the forces of the Grand Alliance of, among others, the Kingdom of England, Austria and the Republic of the Seven United Provinces were under the command of John Churchill and Prince Eugenius of Savoy. The French and Bavarian armies were commanded by Camille d'Hostun, Maximilian II Emanuel of Bavaria and Count Ferdinand de Marsin.
This battle ended with a decisive victory for the Grand Alliance. It was the first major defeat for the French in over 60 years and the threat to Vienna was removed.
