Photographing animals? Lovely, but I don't want to take just any photo of an animal. I prefer to try to make a portrait of it. That sounds simple, but it is not. This rooster was in a coop and I had to photograph it from a distance through the mesh. Now that mesh is no problem as long as you are close to it with your lens. You also need to have a telephoto lens that can get the animal close to make this cutout, say an 80-200 millimetre. And then you also need to have enough light to take the picture. Because I shoot without a tripod. For this photo, I also sat on the ground, because I prefer to photograph animal heads from their own height and not from my far too high human perspective.
