Route Gaularfjellet, Norway.
The Gaularfjellet tourist route is a 114-kilometer long tourist route in Norway. Although the route is not very well known, it is among the most beautiful in the country. The road leads over the Gaular, the mountain located between Dragsvik and the Sognefjord. The Sognefjord is the longest fjord in Norway and also one of the longest in the world.
In early spring when the road has just opened, the snow is still along the road and on the mountain tops.
A beautiful viewpoint has been built here with an overview of the valley.
The route starts as the Fylkesvei at the ferry in Balestrand and goes past the highlights Utsikten, Tornesstølen and Likholefossen to the junction at the village of Vik in the municipality of Sunnfjord. At the junction you can choose to stay on Fylkesvei towards Moskog or take Fylkesvei to Sande. Both stretches of road are part of the Gaularfjellet tourist route.
The Gaularfjellet tourist route is 1 of 18 National Scenic Routes, in Norwegian these roads are called Nasjonale Turistveger. These 18 tourist routes have been named the most beautiful routes in the country for the Norwegian government. On and along these routes you can see the most beautiful sights of Norway and in many places special viewing platforms have also been built. With the beautiful nature and many special waterfalls, it is not surprising that the Gaularfjellet is among the most beautiful roads in the country.
