The Rügenbrücke at Stralsund connects Rügen with the mainland. Germany. It's a so-called cable-stayed bridge.
The bridge spans the Strelasund between the mainland near the city of Stralsund and the island of Rügen. The bridge is 2,831 metres long and consists of a main cable-stayed bridge with a total length of 583 metres, with a main span of 198 metres. The bridge deck is 42 meters above sea level, the pylons are 128 meters high.
This new bridge was built between 2003 and 2007 and opened to traffic in 2007.
Since the Middle Ages there have been ferry services across the Strelasund between Stralsund and Altefähr, now only sporadically in high season.
