The ruined lizard (Podarcis siculus) is a species fromd e family of true lizards that is especially widespread in Italy. I came across this specimen in the south of the country, sunbathing on a wall. The animals often hang around dilapidated buildings, ruins or in natural areas with lots of rocks and vegetation. They are fairly shy, but when approached cautiously with a telephoto lens of 200 mm or more, they are often fine to photograph. What I particularly like about this photo is the contrast between the grey wall and the green background.
