About ‘SPORT FREE’ by Olliventure

SPORT FREI documents a dilapidated gym in an abandoned barracks. This lost place is not just any barracks, but one of the most important military sites of the Soviet army on German soil.

The military town is well hidden in a huge wooded area, far away from civilisation. Nuclear weapons were stored here and tens of thousands of soldiers were stationed at this location. All at a time that we remember as the Cold War.

As I dragged my photographic equipment for kilometres through the dense spruce forest in the scorching heat, there was no sign of any of this. Only the shutter of my camera breaks the silence and burns a timeless motif onto the memory card.
