The Cathedral of the Intercession of the Mother of God on the ditch in Moscow was built by order of Ivan IV (Ivan the Terrible), in honour of his victory over the Volga-Tatars in the city of Kazan. The building is considered one of the most beautiful Russian Orthodox churches and is the main eye-catcher of the Red Square. The cathedral was restored around the turn of the century and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
