Sainte Mere Eglise is located in the middle of the Cotentin peninsula in Normandy and is considered the most famous French village in America. This has everything to do with the events on June 6, 1944 when US airborne troops jumped over the village from their aircraft to begin the liberation of Western Europe on Nazi Germany. The parachute John Steele was hanging on the church tower with the parachute and became famous world-famous.
