The sea lions form a group (usually considered a subfamily, Otariinae) of sea predators in the family of sea lions (Otariidae).
The sea lions split off from the sea bears about'3 million years ago. Sea lions are generally larger than sea bears, have a blunter snout and smaller flippers. The main difference between the two groups is the undercoat, which is lacking in sea lions. source wikipedia.
