About "Seascape on the IJ, Amsterdam"

About the artwork

Zeegezicht aan het IJ is a work of art by Irma Boom in Amsterdam-Centre.

The work of art is located in the Cuyperspassage on the west side of Amsterdam Central Station and consists of a hundred and ten meter long wall with tiles. Irma Boom was inspired by 's Lands schip Rotterdam and the herring fleet of Cornelis Pieterszoon Boumeester (1652-1733). Zeezicht aan het IJ shows the ship Rotterdam, the image runs from the wall to the ceiling. The Coat of Arms of Rotterdam on the stern of the ship was replaced by the Coat of Arms of Amsterdam. The tableau consists of 70,000 tiles measuring 13 by 13 centimetres from the tile factory Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum. The tiles were hand painted by Jouke Jongstra and Fokke Hamstra. It took five years to complete the work. The warship can be seen three times and thus fades from south to north. The name of artist and factory can be found at the south end of the tunnel.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers. Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
