About ‘Senegal; Gold, colour and character’ by Dirk Lahuis

This image is a masterpiece of textures and contrasts. The background is formed by the wall of a house, constructed from metal sheets scarred by time. The rough, rusty brown surface tells a story of sun, rain and years of use, with the original paint still shimmering through the rust here and there only as a faint memory.

But it is precisely against this weathered backdrop that the young woman shines with unprecedented power. Her appearance forms a stark but fascinating contrast to the background. The colourful fabrics of her clothes and the shimmer of her gold jewellery seem to catch and reflect the light. The sun plays with her dark skin, which takes on a beautiful, almost velvet glow and visually stands out powerfully against the hard metal. It is an image that exudes power: the beauty that does not give way to the harshness of its surroundings, but rather is enhanced by it. The wall may be old and rusty, but the woman standing in front of it is the embodiment of elegance, pride and vibrant energy.

My passion for photography started early, around 1970. In the era of analogue photography, I bought a second-hand Agfa Iso Rapid Ic from my savings. Later, I could afford a new camera, and it became a Pentax K1000. I dreamed of a Contax, a Canon AE-1 or a Hasselblad, but those were out of my reach. What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
