About ‘Shaft mouth and loose floor coal mine Beringen (B)’ by Marianne Dirix

This is where the mined coal was unloaded. It is clear that the shafts were gigantic and every two minutes 50 tons of coal was hoisted to the topsoil. Behind the steel beams in the middle the shaft mouth yawned with a depth of 950 meters.

Enige jaren geleden ben ik begonnen met het fotograferen van landschappen en heb hierna een "eigen stijl" weten te creëren. Deze stijl betreft een knipoog naar het pictorialisme, een stroming in de vroegere jaren van de fotografie. In de kunstwereld werd de fotografie als iets minachtends beschouwd omdat dit niet meer dan het reproduceren van de werkelijkheid was. Immers, de fotografie werd gezien als broodroof van die portretschilders die enorm veel concurrentie…
