About ‘Shibari in black and white and shadow’ by Retinas images

This black-and-white photograph shows a naked female body lying wrapped in rope on a weathered wooden floor in an abandoned industrial space. The curved lines of the rope follow and emphasise the anatomy, whilst the floor, with its grain, scratches and patina, forms a raw counterpoint. The face remains largely in shadow, drawing attention to the body’s posture, the diagonal lines and the rhythm of the twists.

The image alludes to shibari and explores the tension between vulnerability and control, softness and structure. The limited light creates a layered composition with deep shadows, rich shades of grey and small, bright highlights on the skin and rope. The urbex-like setting lends the photograph a timeless, mysterious atmosphere without overloading the image.

This fine-art nude photography complements a modern, industrial or minimalist interior and makes for a striking piece of wall art in a bedroom, dressing room, studio or creative workspace. An intriguing piece for lovers of black-and-white photography, urbex, rope art and art in which the body, texture and space come together.
