The Canada goose (Branta canadensis) is a species of bird in the duck family (Anatidae) and is considered the most common goose in the world. Its original range is North America. There it is a characteristic bird of the lowlands and breeds on inland lakes of the prairies and farmlands. Their characteristic V-formation migration to wintering grounds and their return to breeding grounds in spring are symbols of the changing seasons in North America. In Europe, the Canada goose has been deliberately introduced to some extent. A large part of the populations that exist today, especially in Great Britain, Ireland, Scandinavia and the Netherlands, are due to captive escapees. Since the 1970s, it has also been a breeding bird in Germany. The Canada goose grows slightly larger than the greylag goose, making it the largest goose species to be observed in the wild in Europe.(Source: WIKIPEDIA)
